Study in Canada Amid Covid-19 in 2022-23
Wondering why one should study in Canada when most countries continue to keep their borders closed to international students? Given below are the measures taken by the government to make sure that foreign students enter Canada safely:
-
The Canadian government has made it mandatory for students to self-quarantine for 14 days uponarrival.
-
An app has been introduced - ArriveCan, through which the government has been keeping track of all travellers. After arrival, students must, therefore, provide all required details including contact information and self-assessments during quarantine via the app.
-
Travellers must pass a pre-boarding health check conducted by the respective airlines.
-
Students entering Canada must prove their eligibility for health care coverage in Canada. In case they are not covered, they must avail private insurance (including Covid-19 coverage) before arriving in Canada.
-
Anyone who breaks quarantine rules may have to pay a fine of up to CAD 750,000 or be sentenced to six months in jail.
-
From November 30, 2021 the list of vaccines which can be considered for full vaccination has been expanded for both domestic and international travellers. The list includes Sinopharm, Sinovac and COVAXIN and matches WHO's Emergency Use Listing.
-
It is compulsory for all international students above 18 years of age to be fully vaccinated to enter Canada from January 15, 2022
-
Fully vaccinated international students can attend any provincially or territorially DLI from January 15, 2022. While unvaccinated or non-fully vaccinated students (below 18 years)can attend only those DLIs which have their Covid19 Readiness plan approved.
-
International students can arrive in canada four weeks prior to actual start of thier course or term. The student should satisfy all other entry requirements and CBSA official at port of entry must be satisfied with the early arrival and its quantum.
