Taking the ACT exam, in order to pursue Bachelors abroad, requires students to be eligible for the exam. Students of all grades and ages are eligible for the test. However, as the ACT is designed to measure the student's readiness to enter college, it is usually taken by students who are in classes 10, 11 and 12.
In addition, as the ACT makes test-takers eligible to study in the USA, Canada and other English-speaking countries, proficiency in the English language is another basic requirement for any candidate to fetch a decent score on the test.
There are no specific eligibility criteria for the ACT exam. No official prerequisites are not mentioned by the conducting body to appear for the test. The test can be taken by any student of any age without the bars of grade. As the paper will be set in English, it is necessary to be fluent in the language.
ACT is a popular standardised test that determines whether a student is ready to take admission to US colleges. However, even before the pandemic, several colleges decided to go test-optional and now the same footsteps have been followed by numerous schools. That said, taking the ACT exam will be beneficial given that it will give an extra advantage. Some universities and colleges that will require ACT for admission in 2023 are the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, the University of Central Florida, etc.

Confused About Whether to Take the ACT or Not?
ACT is a popular test that is designed for high school students seeking admission to American colleges for bachelor's courses. Every year more than 2 million test-takers take the test. The ACT exam eligibility criteria are not defined. Students can take the exam irrespective of their grade or age levels. The key points of eligibility criteria for the ACT are:
Besides graduates of high school, students who are in classes 6 to 9 can also apply for the exam.
ACT is a criterion for admission to undergraduate programmes and therefore, it is generally taken by students above 13 years of age.
Though the ACT exam itself has no criteria, students should adhere to the requirements of the course or university as specified on their website.
Students below 13 years of age can not create an online MyACT account. They can contact ACT Customer Support for assistance and complete the registration process.
Students must take the ACT exam at least two months before the application deadline of the universities/institutions. The ACT scores are out within two to eight weeks of the exam.
A candidate must possess an international debit or credit card to pay for the test.
The candidate must also have a valid passport which is valid identification proof for students.
Can I appear for the ACT after passing the 9th standard?
Yes, a 9th standard student can take the ACT as the test does not have any age criteria.
Can I appear for the ACT after passing the 10th?
Yes, if you have just cleared or are going to appear for your 10th exam, you may take the ACT.
Is there any college-specific eligibility criteria to appear for the ACT?
Yes, every university would a different minimum ACT mark requirement. Please check with the university before applying.
Do I need to have a passport to appear in the ACT?
The applicant must have a valid passport as identification proof while appearing for the ACT.
Can I take the ACT after 12th?
People of all ages and grade levels are eligible to take the ACT as there are no eligibility criteria for the test.
Is there an age limit to appear in the ACT?
There is no age limit to appearing for the ACT test. However, any candidate below the age of 13 will not be allowed to create a MyACT account, which is required to register for the test. In such cases, the student will be required to contact the ACT Customer Support to seek assistance and complete the registration for the test.
