University of Toronto (U of T) is the leading public research universityinCanada which was established in 1827. The university was founded by royal charter as King's College and was originally controlled by the Church of England. It is a leader in research and teaching with a significant footprint at bothnational and global levels. TheU of Tis located in Toronto, Ontario province of Canada and is ranked as the number 1 University of Canada. In the 2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU; also known as Shanghai Ranking), the university ranked 22nd in the world and first in the country.Globally, it ranks in the top 10 public universities in almost all major international rankings.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The university is expanded into three major campuses namely the Downtown Toronto campus (St. George), Mississauga campus (in the West) and Scarborough campus (in the East). It facilitates housing for students who enter in the first year of admission at the University. It isinternationally recognized for its quality education in various undergraduate, graduate as well as professional programs. The university offers over 700 undergraduate courses and 200 graduate courses. The university provides an appropriate environment for research and study and ensures that the students are equipped with modern technology and infrastructure. The four basic principles of U of T are respect for intellectual integrity, freedom of inquiry and rational discussion; promotion of equity and justice; a collegial form of governance; fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The University of Toronto is known for certain influential movements and curricula in communication theory and literary criticism. It was the birthplace of insulin and stem cell research while also being the site of the development of deep learning, the first practical electron microscope, multi-touch technology, the development of the theory of NP-completeness, and the identification of the first black hole Cygnus X-1. The University of Toronto receives the maximum annual scientific research funding among all the universities of Canada and is one of two members of the Association of American Universities outside the United States. Four Prime Ministers of Canada, three Governors-General of Canada, fourteen Justices of the Supreme Court, and three foreign leaders have been proud alumni of the University of Toronto.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
Every year, more than 90,000 students enrol for various courses at the three major campuses of the university out of which approximately 20,000 are international students. The international students who enrol for admission in U of T are mainly from China, India, the United States, South Korea, and Hong Kong. One of the primary reasonswhy the University of Toronto is placed among the best universities in the world is that it ensures diversity is maintained in every batch. The student body at U of T comprises some of the most brilliant minds from all around the globe.
