Established in the year 1909, the University of Queensland has been recognised as one of the leading institutions for research and teaching. Although founded in 1909, the university commenced its classes only in 1911 with three faculties (Arts, Science and Engineering) and 83 students. According to the QS World Ranking 2022, the University of Queensland is the 47th best university to pursue higher education in the world. As per QS WUR by Subject Ranking, the university holds 2nd position and is ranked as the 48th best university in providing employment to its graduates. UQ is among the three Australian members of the global Universitas 21, a member of Universities Australia and a founding member of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Queensland has three beautiful campuses located at St. Lucia (main campus), Herston and Gatton, spanning across an area of 1,463 hectares. Apart from its six faculties and eight institutes, the University of Queensland has a wide range of facilities off-campus including  UQ Business School Brisbane City, Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) among others. UQ’s campus comprises 562 buildings, 411 general teaching rooms, 1,893 laboratories, a well-equipped library, 11 residential colleges, more than 220 clubs and societies. Through its six faculties, a graduate school and a college, UQ offers associate, bachelor, master, doctoral, and higher doctorate degrees.

With its eyes on enhancing its teaching excellence, the University of Queensland has won national teaching awards, compared to most universities in the country. UQ is dedicated to providing knowledge leadership to create a better world. It should be noted that many of the university’s programmes have been listed among the top 10 in the world. The notable alumni of the university include one Nobel Laureate, an Academy Award Winner, two Fortune 500 company CEOs and stalwarts and leaders in various celebrated fields. The alumni of the university, which is a community of over 280,000, are considered as the greatest assets of the university.

As a public university, UQ has enrolled over 53,000 students, which includes nearly 20,213 international students from 142 countries who study across the University's three beautiful campuses. The university has many collaborative programs to enhance the employability skills of its students. Since 1911, UQ has turned 2.5 lakh students into graduates who are employable in their respective fields. In addition, it has introduced the Career Development Framework which is aimed at elevating a student’s profile and accelerating and enhancing their employability. It is continuously exploring and discovering new ways to apply innovative approaches to fostering student employability.
