Nipissing universitys history is one that could be chronicled easily, as it involves a communitys trust with the authorities for establishment of a degree granting high educational institution in their region. These efforts of the community partially succeeded in 1967 when with a campus area the institution affiliated with Laurentian University as a Collegiate establishment with Laurentian granting the degree to the students. It was only in 1992 when the funding requirements of the university were resolved and charter was granted to the institution of being a degree granting university. As of today, it has its own affiliated colleges as Algonquin College, Continental College, Lambton College and St. Clair College. In case of academic affiliations, the institution is associated with AUCC, IAU, COU, CVU, Fields Institute, CBIE and CUP.

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses

Nipissing University has one main campus in North Bay and one satellite campus in Brantford, Ontario. Humbled by its own struggles, the helping hand of the institution towards educational institutions was never hesitant, as a result Canadore College has its building in the main campus. The infrastructure of the university expands over a wide range of activities, academic buildings, faculty building, library, bookstore, sports facilities, and research laboratories. The institution offersits students twelve undergraduate programs, eight graduate and professional programs, nineteen certificate courses and four joint programs (with Canadore College). The institution has its own Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and promotes the club activities of its students. The research laboratories are involved in varying aspects such as Robotics, Nuclear, Biomechanics, geomatics, etc. There are four residential complexes available for the students within the university campus.

Accomplishments and Alumni

The university is devoted to supporting as much as possible with its Funding Opportunities program, where the university accepts applications and guides the applicants in securing a funding for their goals. The institution is involved with the Canada Research Chairs program and helps in forming a strategic course of research process implementation. Alongwith the ethics which a research team needs to follow are also explained in order to ensure that the subtle aspects do not marr the quantitative overreaches. Some of the notable alumni of the university are Colin Simpson, George Chiang, Judi Longfield, Natalia Kusendova, Garry Denniss and Sean Kelly.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Nipissing Universitys basic roots are in community and therefore it comes as no surprise that it maintains close ties with the indigenious communities of the region. It even has programs such as Aborignial Advantage Program and Peer 2 Peer Aboriginal Mentorship Initiatives in order to ensure the growth and development of the surrounding communities. The institution is well known for its tight numbered classes and programs and yet it manages more than four percent of the international population of students. There is constant support provided by the university's administration to cultural integrity and cross-cultural programs. The Career Development and Education department of the university helps its students in guiding them to make sturdy and reliable career decisions.
