Founded in 1962, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is an applied science and polytechnic institute in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Although NAIT officially opened its doors in 1963, the first graduation ceremony happened in 1965, with a class of 326 graduates. NAIT has been a leading polytechnic institute for more than 50 years and it marked its 50th anniversary in 2012.NAIT is affiliated with Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICA), The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), The Alberta public colleges and technical institutes, and The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE). NAIT has been ranked as among the top 100 institutes in Canada.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
NAIT houses 4 major campuses. Firstly the main campus, which is the home to the Productivity, and Innovation Centre, the Centre for Applied Technology, and the HP Centre. Secondly, Patricia campus, which offers different programs under the NAIT's School of Skilled Trades. Thirdly, the South campus, which hosts the different Crane & Hoisting Equipment Operator apprentices for the offered programs. And lastly, the Spruce Grove campus, which is home to apprenticeship training programs.NAIT essentially offers over 122 credit programs, leading to 4 degrees, 3 applied degrees, and a host of diplomas and certificates. Some of the courses at the University include Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Applied Business Administration Finance, Bachelor of Applied Business Administration-Accounting, Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology and Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management.
Accomplishments & Alumni
One of the main Accomplishments of NAIT is that this institution has undertaken over 89 leading research projects, out of which 99% were in partnerships with the industry and it has earned a phenomenal 98% employer satisfaction rate. The university is so involved in tecnology that it has its own circulating journal, namely Techlifetoday. The institution also collaborates and conducts researches in fields of Biotechnology, Digital Economy, Energy and environment, and others.Notable Alumni include Nolan Crouse, Mayor, the City of St. Albert, Patrick LaForge, Edmonton Oilers Past President and CEO, Doug Pruden, push up World Record holder & holds 9 records, Vince Steen, Northwest Territories MLA and Travis Toews, the Minister of Finance of Alberta and President of the Treasury Board.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
As of 2018, over 16000 students were enrolled in credit programs, over 12000 apprentices were registered in apprenticeship training, over 14500 students enrolled in non-credit courses, and approximately more than 20000 registered for the customized corporate based training. Additionally, there were approximately 1700+ International Students representing over 91 countries, enrolled in the credit programs. In the factor of educating and supporting its students the institution has made available options of Counselling, Health and Wellness support, Mental Health support, Sexual Health and Consent, Financial aid, and many other student support programs. Top recruiters include Alberta Health Services, City of Edmonton, Suncor, Finning and PCL Construction.
