Lakehead University (LU) was established in 1965 and evolved from being a Lakehead Technical Institute (1946) to a public research university. It has campuses in Thunder Bay (Main Campus) and Orillia, Ontario. The Macleans ranking 2020 of undergraduate schools have ranked LU as #8 in Canada. US News has ranked it as the top 31 in the nation. Lakehead University has enjoyed the highest rankings ever since its establishment. THE ranking for Lakehead University is positioned at #28. Lakehead University has accreditation from AACSB for its business programs. The Engineering programs at Lakehead University are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board of Engineers Canada and Canada's Association of Information Technology Professionals. It has several affiliations including the Ontario Network of Women in Engineering, IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association), etc.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Lakehead University has two campus locations in Thunder Bay and Orillia. The main campus at Thunder Bay is located on the shores of Lake Superior and is surrounded by nature. It is spread over 300-acre land with 39 buildings. Around 7,900 students call Thunder Bay their home. The campus at Orillia is 1.5 hours away from Toronto, established in 2006. It has approximately 1,200 students studying at Orillia Campus. Lakehead University has 9 different faculties offering UG and PG Programs. The most popular is Social Science and Humanities faculty followed by Health and Behavioural Sciences, Engineering and Business.

LU is ranked secondamong Canadian undergraduate universities in Research Infosources SPOTLIGHT ON UNIVERSITY CORPORATE RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS 2013-2017 in terms of Corporate Research Income. The university receives $11 million in scholarships, bursaries and awards.Lakehead University has more than 45,000 alumni around the world. Some of the well-known names are Jan Cameron Swimmer, Stephen Low IMAX Filmmaker, Diane Schoemperlen a novelist, Eric Melillo Canadian MP, Arnold Park President & CEO, McCain Foods and many more.

As of the 2019-20 fall intake, it holds an enrolment of 1,400 international students representing over 80 countries from around the world. The average class size at Lakehead University is 25 students with a student-faculty to student ratio is 20:1. Lakehead University enjoys a great network of employers. It has an employment rate of 97.7% and with superb salaries.
