After Indian students criticised the Australian government regarding job opportunities after graduation, Australianminister Dan Tehans saidthat his government would look into ways to improve the post-study work visa arrangements in Australia for international students.
While Tehan was escorting commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal to the University of New South Wales,a student expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that she was not getting jobs as the companies demanded citizenship or permanent residency. Tehan though unpreparedfor the situation was later found commenting that there was a real opportunity to enhance the post-study work rights in the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement with India. He further said that if the students come to study in Australia, then they will ensure that they can explore employment outcomes too. \

The trade agreement has noted that the students can stay in Australia for up to four years after studying. However, the students are skeptical about how it will be executed at the ground level.
Application for internships in Australia also requires students to be eligible to work for more than 40 hours per week which may not be applicable in the case of international students. However, Tehan said that the 40-hours-per-week work rule will not be applicable for those with post-study work visas.
Since the Australian borders were opened, 56,000 students have joined their respective institutions in the country. The Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison saw the return of the skilled workforce and international students as means to further their economic recovery.
