Victoria University (VU) is a Public Research University in Melbourne, Australia. The institute started in 1906 and earned the university status in 1990. It provides courses in Higher education and Technical and Further Education (TAFE). 2016 marked VU's centenary as an educational institution and its 25th anniversary as a university. Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University has several campuses in Melbourne Central Business District, Melbourne Western Region, and in Sydney, including six academic colleges, six research institutes, seven research centers and VU's Victoria Polytechnic (offering vocational education and training). It also offers courses at partner institutions throughout Asia. Two of the largest partners of VU are Sunway University College in Malaysia and Liaoning University in China. VU offers graduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses in Arts, Business, Computer & IT, Sports and Exercise, Education, Engineering, Science, Law and Justice, Health and Biomedicine.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Victoria University has developed partnership agreements with several organizations, with the aim of strengthening the University's community and industry relationships. Some of these include- Western Health which is VU's main industry training partner for the provision of nursing and midwifery work-integrated learning. Each year, hundreds of VU students complete over 110,000 hours of clinical placement at Western Health locations. Another partnership is with Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC). Notable alumni of VU include Ali Abdo (Olympic Wrestler), Doug Chappel (comedian and actor), Pia Miranda (actress), Alan Kohler (Financial Journalist), Sarah Jane Pell (Artist), Jeffrey Cheah (Business Person), and Curtis Stone (Australian Chef).
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
Victoria University is the most diverse University of Australia, as its students and staff represent over 90 different cultures and speak more than 200 languages. At VU nearly 55% of students are female in UG and PG courses. Top employers like Infosys, Deloitte, IBM, Accenture, PwC, EY, KPMG give employment to students of VU every year consistently for the past many years.
