Sydney Institute of TAFE is now known as the TAFE NSW Sydney Metro is the largest training and education provider in Australia. It started as a Sydney Mechanics School of Arts in 1833 and another similar school Sydney Technical College which was established in 1835 merged together around 1890. Since 2017, TAFE has turned into a more centralized model and this brought together 130 campuses across the state. The Minister for Regional Development, Skills and Small Business is responsible for TAFE NSW. TAFE NSW awards qualifications as specified in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and accredited to the Vocational Education and Training (VET). According to World rankings 2010, TAFE NSW Sydney has a world ranking of 6305.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
TAFE NSW Sydney Metro has 8 campuses spread across Sydney. These are Design Centre Enmore, Eora, Gymea, Loftus, Petersham, Randwick, St. George, and Ultimo. TAFE offers degree and shorts term certificates in Commerce, Business, Finance, Services, Education, Arts and Animation, Designing, Fashion, Real Estate, IT, Networking and Infrastructure Engineering. If a student wants to learn on the job then assignments are given according to position and previous experience could also count towards completing the qualification faster.
Accomplishments & Alumni
TAFE NSW established a business connection with Kunming Metallurgy College in 2013 and commenced delivery of a dual-qualification in Environmental Monitoring and Technology in 2015 that will see KMC students graduate with recognition of their skills in both China and Australia. Also, NSW established a partnership with GATE Vocational College in 2015. GATE is an award-winning Tourism and Hospitality academy founded in Kathmandu, Nepal. Notable alumni include Chris Cheney (Musician), and Alex Perry (fashion designer), and Donna Hay (celebrity chef).
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
The institute welcomes a number of international students coming from different parts of the world each year. Also, the Institute has over 25000 connections of employers across the state and this includes small business and Global Corporations. In 2016/17, nearly 85% graduate students gained jobs or went for further studies with most of them getting jobs before being Graduate. Top hirers include Commonwealth Bank, CSL Limited, ANZ Banking Group Limited, Woolworths Group Limited, Google, Amazon and so on.
