The K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad is one of several scholarships established by the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust to support and motivate students to pursue post-graduate studies abroad in a variety of study fields. The primary goal of this scholarship is to assist worthy and needy students in continuing their studies.

Eligibility for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

The scholarship's eligibility standards are designed only to assess candidates' cognitive talents and mental resilience. And, like any other scholarship scheme, the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad has a separate set of eligibility requirements. Prospective candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible:

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.

  • The candidate must have a First Class degree or a certificate of a comparable grade from a recognised university (bachelor’s degree).

  • The candidate must have been accepted or have applied for admission to respected international colleges for courses beginning in August 2023 (Fall Intake) but no later than February 2024 (Spring Intake).

  • Candidates in their final year of a degree or diploma course are also eligible to apply. In this case, students have to produce their final year marksheet or provisional certificate from the institute stating that they have completed their degree/diploma course with a first class before the end of June.

Note: This scholarship is not available to students travelling abroad for undergraduate courses, seminars, or conferences.

There is no limit to which course, country or university the students are aiming for admission. K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad is an interest-free loan, thus, students can use the lump sum amount and invest it in studying in any country, be it the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, etc. Applicants are free to apply to any degree programme and course as well but it should be a full-time postgraduate course. Since it is a loan, students can apply to any university and use the award amount as they deem fit, such as tuition fees, books, travel, accommodation and more.

Application Deadline for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

Applications for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad are now closed for the academic year 2023. The deadline to apply for the scholarship was April 10th, 2023 (5 PM IST). Future aspirants can expect the next year's deadline to be around the same time i.e. first or second week of April. The application window opens from January to March. Students are advised to check the official website to receive real-time on all important dates and deadlines.

How to Apply for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships?

Candidates interested in applying for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad programme should follow the procedures outlined below to guarantee a smooth application process: 

  • Step 1: First and foremost, candidates must go to the organization's official website, https://www.kcmet.org/index.aspx. 

  • Step 2: Candidates must click the 'Apply Now' button after being led to the webpage. 

  • Step 3: Following that, they need to choose the 'Register' option. Students will be required to provide their appropriate credentials.

  • Step 4: Applicants will be given their login IDs and passwords once they have enrolled. 

  • Step 5: Candidates must pick the 'Click Here to Apply' option to apply for the scholarship scheme. This button may be found under the 'K. C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad' option.

  • Step 6: Candidates must provide their information after clicking the 'Create an Account' button.

  • Step 7: After creating an account, candidates must upload the necessary and relevant documents and choose the 'submit' option.

Note: Once submitted, the application form cannot be altered. Any information that needs to be amended should be given through email to kcmetscholarships@mahindra.com, along with your application ID.

Selection Criteria for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

Each year, more applicants are chosen for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad. The following factors are used by the committee to choose the candidates for this scholarship scheme:

  • Candidates are chosen by the selection committee based on their academic standing, financial position, and goals. 

  • Based on the applicant's written purpose statement and K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad application, they will shortlist them.

  • Students who are shortlisted will be informed by May-June via email.

  • Candidates who desire to study subjects that will directly contribute to India's growth will be given preference by the committee.

  • The committee also favours students who are interested in biogas technology for rural areas, oceanography, seabed mining, fisheries, surveying and prospecting for the nation's mineral resources, alternative energy sources like solar, wind, and tidal energy, agricultural research and engineering, transportation economics, offshore drilling, and the exploration of other oceanic products.

  • The shortlisted applicants have to show up for the interview which is usually held in July.

Documents Required for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

Candidates must get their original papers to complete the registration process. The application form for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad must be submitted with the following supporting papers: 

  • Copy of admission letter. If your admission decision is still pending, then you may attach a Word document saying that you have applied for admission but have not yet received any response from the university.

  • A written letter of recommendation from any of the referees is included in the references section. This letter of recommendation (LOR) should be written on the organization's or institute's letterhead. Your referee may also submit the recommendation to kcmetscholarships@mahindra.com using their official email address. In this situation, you can attach a Word document certifying that the LOR was sent via email. Please include the referee's email address in your document.

  • A brief statement of purpose (SOP) describing the candidate's overall aptitude and interests, the course(s) they hope to enrol in, and their goals and objectives in life.

  • A copy of your GRE or GMAT or any other standardised exam scores, if applicable.

  • A copy of your IELTS or TOEFL or any other language proficiency scores, if applicable.

  • All the evidence and proof of course and degree certificates along with marksheets.

  • Rank certificate, if applicable.

  • Marksheet copies of grades 10 and 12.

  • A passport photocopy.

  • Current and updated resume and curriculum vitae (CV).

Note: There is no particular format required for a strong SOP for K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad. Your motivation for applying to the selected programme and course at your chosen university should be highlighted in the SOP. The scholarship SOP serves as a tool for understanding candidates' motivations for their selected professional paths and life objectives/goals. This essay should provide a summary of the candidates' past accomplishments, present activities, and future goals.

Benefits of Receiving K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

The K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad scholarship programme will provide interest-free loans to chosen applicants for studies. The benefit of this award is that students can use the award amount as per their liking and fund tuition fees, travel, accommodation, etc. There is no restriction on how the amount can be used.

However, students must be careful and use the scholarship wisely. It is advised to create a budget plan and use the INR 10,00,000 or INR 5,00,000 judiciously. Who Can be the Guarantor of the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships?

Although collateral is not required for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad, candidates must have a guarantor. Liability for the guarantor is equal to that of the candidate. Generally, the candidate's parent(s) or guardian should serve as the guarantor. A spouse or in-law/s may serve as the guarantor in the case of a married individual. If the parent(s) or spouse cannot serve as a guarantor, the child's guardian or any relative (including a brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, uncle, and aunt (both maternal and paternal)) may do so. Subject to the Director's permission and submission of necessary documents, a non-relative may serve as a guarantor.

Terms and Conditions for Winning K.C. Mahindra Scholarships

The decisions of the KC Mahindra scholarship trustees are final and binding. The important tips and terms and conditions for winning the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad are as follows:

  • The postgraduate programme should be of two years duration minimum. Candidates will need permission from the K.C. Mahindra trustees in advance if they plan to engage in a course whose duration is more than two years.

  • A guarantor must be provided by the applicants for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad loan.

  • Within 24 months of finishing the course (OR within 48 months of getting the KC Mahindra scholarship, whichever comes first), the candidates must return the KC Mahindra scholarship loan amount. 

  • The KC Mahindra scholarship trustee is not required to hire the scholars once they have finished their programme.

  • A contract outlining the terms and conditions should be signed by the candidates.

  • If the trustees are awarded additional scholarships, they may decide to stop offering the KC Mahindra scholarship altogether or reduce its value.

  • If the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad are forfeited, the candidates must promptly repay the loan amount, change their nationality, or gain foreign citizenship.

  • The trustees can deny the KC Mahindra scholarship benefits to candidates who engage in major misbehaviour, fail to maintain an acceptable proficiency, or neglect to continue their education or training.
