Australian Mayor Sally Capp is all set to provide a conducive environment to the international students studying in Australia. She also champions the extension of visas to four years.

The Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Capp will influence the next federal government to allow international students to work in Australia after completing a bachelor's degree or above. She will rally for automatic access to visas for four years.

Currently, bachelor's degree holders and master's degree coursework students can apply for a two years visa and those with master's degree research can apply for three years and students with doctoral degrees can request visas for years.

Graduates who will work for four years would then be considered for permanent residency in Australia. The property sector of Victoria has turned to the state government to launch a marketing campaign to attract international students and offer them USD 15,000 for interstate or overseas relocation.

Federal Treasury projects that tens of thousands of people of Victoria will migrate to other states over the next three years and the international students plan will be a “drastic and brave” course of action. Capp has remarked that Australia will turn into a more conducive destination for students and the country will be successful in retaining the talent pool and reducing the shortage of skill and labour. 72,000 post-study visa applications have been submitted to the Department of Home Affairs in 2020-21. The number of students in Victoria has now risen to 1,00,000.

Other incentives such as payroll and land tax relief are being called to attract businesses to the state. The reform agendas are meant to supercharge the economy, invigorate the CBD and grow the international student sector of Victoria.
