The Times Higher Education (THE) recently published the Global Employability University Ranking Survey 2022, wherein 7 Indian institutes have been featured this year. Among these institutes, 3 were mentioned in the top 100, viz., IIT Delhi at 29th, IISc Bangalore at 58th and IIT Bombay at 72nd.
According to the media reports, both IISc and IIT Bombay improved their positions with IISc improving by 3 positions and IIT Bombay improving by 25 positions. The other four institutes mentioned in the list include Amity University, IIT Kharagpur, Bangalore University, and IIM Ahmedabad. Similar to IIT and IISc, IIM Ahmedabad (154) and IIT Kharagpur (155) also improved their positions by 8 and 15 positions, respectively.
Topping the list for the second time in a row, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology and Harvard University have held the same positions. Moreover, the fourth and the fifth positions have been retained by the University of Cambridge and Stanford University. Meanwhile, the University of Oxford has jumped from the eighth position to the sixth, while, the University of Tokyo dropped from 6th to 7th, this time around.

As per reports, this year around, Yale University has seen a significant drop in position, where the university ranked 7th in 2021, and now ranks 10th. Meanwhile, the National University of Singapore and Princeton University both rose one rank each from the previous year.

While, the USA, the UK, Japan and Singapore have been represented in the top 10, this year’s Global Employability University Ranking Survey includes 44 countries and regions including India, China, South Korea, France, Germany, Israel and Spain. As per the report, universities situated in mainland China have also been seeing a steady rise in the list as a result of the graduate skills and work experience displayed by graduates.
The report also highlighted Spain as the “highest climber” over the past two years among the European members. However, the official tag of the “highest climber” goes to the Florida Institute of Technology this year, after climbing 85 places and being ranked 76th on the list.
The survey revealed certain skills and qualities that are considered crucial by employers, which include digital skills, subject specialisations, work expertise and graduate skills. Employers consider these factors as important drivers of performance.
