As per the statistics released by the British High Commission immigration, about 118,000 Indian students were granted a UK student visa by June 2022. In comparison with last year, these figures represent a colossal increase of89%.
Based on the British High Commission press release, India has surpassed China as the country with the most citizens receiving sponsored study visas in the United Kingdom.
In the year ending June 2022, nearly 103,000 Indians comprising both skilled and seasonal workers were granted work visas, representing a 148% rise compared to the same period in 2021.

Being the leading nationality, Indians still comprise the largest group of foreign skilled workers in the UK. Indians received 46% of all skilled work visas issued worldwide.
Up till June 2022, the UK governmentissued visitor visas to more than 258,000 Indians. While compared to the same time last year, when Covid-19 constraints were in effect, this represented an overall 630% rise.
The press release also emphasises that travellers and vacationers continue to favour the UK as a tourist attraction. Indians received the largest percentage of visitor visas with 28%, issued by the country, as compared to other candidates from different nations.
Alexander Ellis, a British High Commissioner to India, stated India First Again and thathe is happy to report that in the year ending June 2022,Indian nationals received the most study, work, and visitor visas, strengthening the unique living bridge that connects the people between the two countries.
Ellis also reaffirmed his earlier call for students to submit their visa applications as soon as possible, citing the extraordinary increase in demand for UK visas following the Covid relaxations.
Earlier in the month of August, the diplomat pleaded with Indians, who were considering travelling to the UK, not to purchase their flight tickets before applying for visas.
This year, the UK hopes to welcome an overwhelming number of Indian students to the UK and take every possible measure to ensure that Indian students receive their visas in a timely manner.
Furthermore, Ellis advised students to adhere to the instructions in the letter for submitting applications for courses at UK universities.
