Established in 1963, the University of York is situated in York city of England. As a partner of the Russell Group, the University of York is a research-intensive higher education institution. The university collaborates with institutions globally to innovate new technologies and unearth life-saving discoveries that can solve some of the ongoing challenges faced by countries across the globe. The University of York is a collegiate university and is divided into nine colleges. Ever since its inclusion, the University of York has powered its way to a persistently high ranking in the country. As per the QS World University Rankings 2021, the university holds the 150th position globally and the 119th position in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2019 out of all the universities in the countries around the world.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The campus of the University of York, a public research university, is stretched over about 500 acres of land in the southeast of the city. The top-ranked fields that the University of York caters to are Chemistry, History, English, Architecture and Social Work. More than 250 graduate and undergraduate courses are offered by 27 different departments. The vibrant campus of the University of York is located close to the city of York and provides a safe and student-friendly environment for learning and personal growth. Accommodation is available within the parkland campus with necessary facilities like high-speed WiFi connection, transportation, 24 hours security, cleaning, food etc.

Since 2012, the university has been a part of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities. Because of its excellent performance and quality GPA of its research programmes, the university was ranked at the 12th position in the UK and at the 24th position globally by the Research Excellence Framework. The universitys long list of notable alumni proves its worth in academics. The York Global Alumni Association is a community of friendly and inspiring alumni. Over 13,000 members from across 180 countries are a part of this network. Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Currently, the University of York has around 20,435 students from across 150+ countries, who are enrolled in different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across different fields. Every year, a large number of international students apply to the University of York for admissions in different courses. Students at the University of York get an opportunity to join the placement drives every year that can be integrated into their studies. It gives students a certain amount of work experience that is recognised with the degree, thus, allowing many organisations to offer lucrative placement opportunities to deserving students of the University of York.

COVID-19 Response

Understanding the need for a safe and healthy environment for the future leaders of the world, the University of York has implemented strict health codes in accordance with the UK government guidelines as an appropriate COVID-19 Response.

  • The UK Government recently permitted the UK Universities to recommence the in-person classes. In accordance with this announcement, the University of York is making changes to support in-person classes and activities.

  • Some courses are already being delivered in the in-person format and the university is looking forward to using the specialised teaching spaces like labs for in-person teaching for the Fall 2021 term.

  • Students who are visiting the campus are encouraged to get COVID-19 testing done regularly.

  • Library, study spaces, accommodation, on-campus supermarkets, on-campus catering, and student support services are available for students to avail. Safety measures are being taken within the campus and all operations and services are being delivered after reviewing the health and safety risk assessments around campus.

  • Symptom-free testing is available to all members of the university at the testing centre located on Campus West and the pop-up testing site on Campus East.

Be Exceptional Scholarships 2021/ 22

Exceptional Scholarships are awarded every year to international students who are enrolled in either undergraduate or postgraduate courses at the university. The award is offered to international students to support them achieve their goals at the university. There are a number of awards offered under this category. 

How to Apply? 

Students can fill the application form in two rounds and the application can be submitted online. The dates to complete the application is given below:

Application Deadline: March 22, 2021 

Application Deadline: June 21, 2021

£2,500 to £7,500 covering tuition fee in the first year only.

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships

The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship is a part of the Be Exceptional Scholarship. It is the most prestigious and highest-achieving scholarship at the University of York. It is awarded to international students only. Students must meet the following eligibility criteria to receive the scholarship:

  • Must be an international student.
  • Must have a conditional and unconditional offer to study at the university.
  • Must be paying fees at the overseas fee rate.
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught masters course.
  • Must not hold any other 100% tuition fee scholarship

£10,000 to £20,000

Maths Academic Excellence Scholarships

Maths Academic Excellence Scholarships is offered to international students who are enrolled in one of the following courses at the University of York:

  • BSc (Hons) Mathematics

  • BSc (Hons) Mathematics (with a year in Europe)

  • MMath (Hons) Mathematics

  • BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics

The scholarship is granted on the basis of academic performance of the student in the first year of studies at the university. The scholarship is renewed if the student maintains a GPA of 85% or higher in the studies.

There is no application for the scholarship. Eligible students are automatically considered for scholarship.
