Canada continues to be a popular study destination for Indian students despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties surrounding it. According to statistics released by the Canadian High Commission in Delhi, around 100,000 study permits were issued to international students during the first four months of 2021, up from nearly 66,000 during the same period last year and around 96,000 in the first four months of 2019.
International students in Canada are contributing to the growth of the countrys immigration population and helping it meet its annual immigration target of at least 401,000 new immigrants under the Immigration Levels Plan 2021-23.
As per a recent report by the Royal Bank of Canada, international migration to Canada has already recovered to pre-Covid levels primarily because of the return of international students and those with post-graduate work permits.

There is, however, a cause for concern among students due to the current travel ban on Indians, imposed amid the second-wave of COVID-19 in India. Direct flights to Canada are not permitted although a lot of students have been taking indirect and more expensive flights to return to campus for the Fall 2021 semester.
In June this year, Canada welcomed 35,000 new permanent residents, recording the highest figure amid the pandemic.
Recently, Canada also announced that international students travelling to Canada will have to show a quarantine plan at the Canadian border to be granted entry.
