Centre on July 29, 2021 notified that travel restrictions for Indian students are being eased by several countries including the UK, the US, Canada and Germany. More countries are expected to do the same after the COVID-19 situation in India improves.
A number of countries had imposed travel restrictions on Indians after the second wave of the pandemic worsened in the country. Since then, the Indian government has been taking initiatives to help ease the restrictions on Indian students with study abroad plans this year.

V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs said in the Rajya Sabha on July 29 that the Ministry had been making efforts to ease travel restrictions to allow Indian students enrolled in universities abroad to travel to their respective study destinations.
Missions abroad have been actively trying to take up these issues with the governments in respective countries and pushing them to ease the travel restrictions. The same has been taken up at the Ministerial level with many countries, he added.

Apart from the US, UK, Germany and Canada, travel restrictions are being eased in Ireland, Luxembourg, Georgia, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc. Further, more countries are likely to open up soon, the Ministers said.
He mentioned that the welfare of Indians abroad along with students was the top priority for the Indian government.

Earlier, in June this year, the US embassy had informed that thousands of students from India had secured appointments for US visas for July and August.
A senior diplomat had also said that Indian students were not required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter the US. They would only have to show a negative COVID-19 report taken within 72 hours before boarding the flight.
