Australia is prepared to make it easier for global corporations to bring their best and brightest employees to the country. According to Immigration Minister Andrew Giles, it is "an important notion that deserves serious attention," and a new scheme might be established by next year.

The Australian government intends to adopt a new proposal that will make it easier for all worldwide corporations to bring highly trained workers to the country. According to an SBS report, the Australian Committee for Economic Development (CEDA) supports streamlining this process for intra-company transfers.

The proposed measures are intended to assist Australia in filling labour shortage gaps in a variety of industries. In this regard, Jarrod Ball, Chief Economist of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), emphasised that the US and the UK already have clear paths for international corporations to recruit talent into those nations in a timely and streamlined manner.

Authorities in the United States granted a total of 116,000 intracompany visas or L1 visas in 2021, even though the figures were substantially higher before the emergence of the Coronavirus and its new forms, as well as COVID-related limitations established to contain its further spread.

Ball stated that implementing a comparable strategy in Australia would allow for more investment. Mr Ball further emphasised the issue, adding that multinational, large corporations are often trusted users of the visa system, and they tend to allow a fair amount of foreign investment as well as knowledge transfer across their workforces.

The L1 non-immigrant visa in Australia allows foreign corporations to transfer certain employees to a US branch, parent, subsidiary, or affiliate company. It allows international corporations to move an executive, manager, or employee with specific experience to a company in the United States.

Furthermore, Andrew Giles, Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Migrant Services, as well as Multicultural Affairs, directed the country's Department of Home Affairs to fast-track visa applications in response to the scarcity of skilled immigrants.

The Minister stated that the community, along with the previous government, had been concerned for several years about the significant delays in processing visa applications.

According to a report released by Winny Immigration, the Minister also stated that processing outstanding visa applications are a priority for the Australian government. The country is also committed to processing visa applications in a timely way.

Also, the most common jobs for temporary skilled visas issued by Australian authorities during July and September 2022 were software engineers, ICT business analysts, resident medical officers, cooks, and developer programmers.

A thorough examination of Australia's migration system is now ongoing to determine whether the system serves the national interest and complements the skills and capacities of Australian workers.

The discussion paper submission deadline is December 15, 2022, with experts hoping to present an interim report by the end of February and a comprehensive strategy by late March/April. According to Mr Ball, an intra-company scheme would also allow the government to explore the idea of applying salary thresholds for the temporary skilled visa system.
