According to British High Commissioner Alex Ellis, India is now the greatest source of students to the United Kingdom and can now get a student visa in just 15 days.

According to British High Commissioner Alex Ellis, the number of Indian students in the UK may soon surpass that of China. The United Kingdom is currently experiencing a record inflow of Indian students, with the turnaround time for student visas shortened to just 15 days.In a recent exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr Ellis stated that many Indian students are now applying for Priority visas, which have a five-day turnaround time.

The country is currently witnessing something remarkable: India is now the number one country in the UK in terms of student visas and skilled worker visas. Indians now account for 45% of all skilled worker visas granted in the United Kingdom.

The British High Commission announced on August 30, 2022, the opening of Priority and Super Priority visa categories for Indian students wishing to pursue higher education in the UK for the next academic session.

Future clarifying the cause for such a large influx of Indian students to Britain, the British High Commissioner remarked that as the country's immigration regulations have evolved, it has given them greater leeway to make further reforms. After finishing their education, international students can now work in the UK for two to three years. This has actually worked in favour of Indian students.

Mr Ellis remarked on the immediate priorities of new British Prime Minister Liz Truss, saying that domestic matters are the most important for any incoming Prime Minister. The UK's inflation rate is significant, and one of the key causes is Russia's arbitrary invasion of Ukraine.

However, he stated that despite the change in government in the United Kingdom, trade relations between the United Kingdom and India will remain unaltered. To emphasise his point, Mr Ellis stated that the UK-India relationship is stable. As the United Kingdom continues to open up, both countries create greater opportunities. In terms of new projects, India is currently the UK's second-largest investor.

The UK is fully prepared to make the two countries' comprehensive strategic cooperation a reality. The country is also planning to double trade by 2030, which will benefit both countries.

Last but not least, he stated that the UK and India are discussing further bilateral cooperation in space exploration and defence.
