According to a recent study, over 91% of the respondents want to study abroad despite the COVID-19 challenges. Most students are, however, looking for alternatives to the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

A recent study revealed that over 91% of students in India want to go ahead with their study abroad plans despite COVID-19 challenges. The respondents have said that they want to study abroad as soon as the situation starts returning to normalcy.

As highlighted by UNESCO, 5 million international students across the world were studying in a foreign country in 2018, out of which, 7,50,000 students were from India.

Given the current scenario, Indian students are now having second thoughts about their decision to study abroad along with which country to opt for. While the US, UK, Australia and Canadaare considered to be the most preferred study abroad destinations amongst Indians, the pandemic has led them to turn to countries like Germany, New Zealand, or Ireland.

According to the data provided by UNESCO, Institute of Statistics, the number of Indian students interested in studying abroad has increased from 66,000 in 2000 to 301,000 in 2016.

Recent statistics point out that Australia and Canada have shown a growth of 7% to 8% in inbound migration and on the other hand, the USs inbound migration has dropped from 59% to 45%.

The primary concerns for most students during this period include health safety, minimum risks due to the global pandemic, quality of education, ease of admissions, tuition fees, cost of living, immigration policies, among others. Hence, countries like New Zealand, Australia, Germany, etc. which have recorded the least number of COVID-19 cases are likely to attract more international students.
