Nanyang Technological University (NTU)has officially announced plans to provide on-campus accommodation facilities to international students for the upcoming academic terms. The decision was taken after reviewing the challenges faced by the university while providing secure off-campus housing due to COVID-19.
Now, the first and second-year students enrolled in the upcoming academic session will also receive a spot, and active hall residents who have full points for participation in hall activities.
As per the latest announcement, all applicants of the first and second year in the upcoming year will get a place in the hall with the two-year guaranteed hall stay guideline. Also, international students who are currently staying in the hall will be allowed to stay in the hall.
The decision taken by NTU is a big sigh of relief for many international students who were facing challenges in finding the right place to stay at a reasonable cost.
The spokesman of NTU said that the university understands the need to follow safety measures and at a time when the vaccinations are still under process. For this, NTU has opened up new halls and also reached out to students who have newly applied for accommodation facilities.
The spokesman clarified that NTU was unable to accommodate students as the demand was higher than expected. The demand is still high this year, however, NTU is now reviewing the number of students it can accommodate to ensure that safety management measures are followed, he said.
