List of Delhi Hospitals for Foreign Medical Graduates Internship

The Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has announced the list of recognised medical institutions that will have reserved seats for FMGs to complete their internship after they have successfully cleared the screening test. The notice further announced that the FMGs would not be eligible for any stipend during their internship.

List of Delhi Hospitals for Foreign Medical Graduates Internship

Hearing the plight of the foreign medical graduates who had to abruptly pause their medical training and learning due to the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Delhi Medical Council has published a list of institutions where the FMGs can intern.

The updated list of recognised institutions where the FMGs can intern also comes with an updated number of seats. According to reports, the total number of seats for FMGs interning at the institution has increased significantly from 587 to 42 in the capital.

The increase in seats has been provided specifically for foreign medical graduates from select countries and universities. These include medical colleges located in China, Ukraine, Russia and other countries that have been recognised by the National Medical Council (NMC) of India.

In a statement by a DMC official, the move was made in view of the impact of the pandemic on medical education and the Russian-Ukraine conflict, which led to the NMC relaxing its norms for a year. Moreover, the official added that the extension will only FMGs who have passed the screening test, allowing them to intern at non-teaching hospitals.

As per the DCM notice published on May 16, 2023, the students would not find themselves eligible for any stipend during their internships at the selected institutions. Additionally, the students will be allocated their seats through the Delhi Medical Council.

The media reports highlighted the number of seats allocated for foreign medical graduates. The reports highlighted that the highest number of seats reserved in government hospitals for FMGs is at DDU Hospital in Hari Nagar with 142 seats. The Hindu Rao Hospital has reserved a total of 150 seats, which includes 50 for 2nd-year interns as we. The ESI Hospital at Basaidarapur has reserved 70, while the Northern Railway Hospital has reserved 40 and 30 have been reserved at RML Hospital.

Private hospitals across Delhi have also reserved seats for FMGs, including the Holy Family Hospital, where 40 seats have been reserved. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has reserved 30 seats and 25 seats have been reserved at BLK Hospital. Jaipur Golden, Batra Hospital and St Stephen Hospital have each reserved 20 seats for foreign medical graduates.
