The Russian medical varsities confirmed that the volatile political situation in the country will not affect medical education. It will provide 5,000 seats to Indian students.

For the academic year 2023–2024, top government medical institutes in Russia plan to give more than 5,000 seats to Indian students. Spot admissions for the MBBS programmes would take place on May 19 at The Grand Regent Hotel during the All-India Russian Education Fair 2023.

The Russian Medical Universities are confident that the political climate in the nation will not have an impact on the medical education sector or the admissions of foreign students to Russian Universities.

The political climate in Russia won't have an impact on the education sector, according to Avdeev Oleg Nikolaevich, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, South India, when asked about the safety concerns of Indian parents regarding sending their children to study medicine in Russia.

He said that they are of the opinion that the students are entirely safe and that the political climate will not have an impact on the number of students who enrol at Russian medical universities. 

Volgograd State Medical University, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kazan State Medical University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Kursk State Medical University, Moscow Aviation Institute, and Moscow State Regional University are among the universities taking part in the education fair.

The education fair will also be hosted in Salem on May 18 at GRT Hotel Zibe, Tiruchi on May 17 at Femina Hotel, and in Madurai on May 16 at The Madurai Residency. For more information, students can call: 9282 221.

Indian students may enrol for MBBS studies in Russia if they have passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and have earned at least 50% in the pertinent core topics or degrees (SC/ST and OBC students must earn at least 40%). Students studying in Tamil may also apply. Exams like the CET, IELTS, etc. are not prerequisites for admission to Russian universities.

Russian institutions have a well-established reputation for offering high-quality, internationally accredited medical education. Russian institutions provide Indian students seeking medical education in the nation with a productive learning environment because of their extensive curricula, qualified faculty, and cutting-edge facilities.

He continued by saying that because the Russian Federation government heavily subsidises higher education, the cost is considerably lower. Programmes for government assistance and inclusion for international applicants are continually changing. As many universities have specialised adaption programmes and support systems for Indian students, universities often offer aid.

The Russian university official explained that to maintain their MBBS programmes' high level of recognition in India, they follow the National Medical Commission's (NMC) evolving rules and requirements. In Russia, there are at least 25,000 students enrolled in academic programmes, and 5,000–6,000 new medical and technical students enrol each year.
