In a new tweet on November 20, 2020, the Canadian government has announced that visa application centres will resume in India from November 21, 2020, on priority for international students and family class candidates.

The VACs will start scheduling a limited number of biometrics appointments in the Indian cities of Delhi, Jalandhar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Bengaluru.

As of October 20, international students have been exempt from the travel restrictions imposed by Canadas government due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Students from India had been facing one major obstacle of not being able to submit biometrics, leading to the inability to travel to Canada.

Now, after the resumption of VACs, Indian students can submit their biometrics and complete their immigration application in order to eventually pursue higher education in Canada.

The tweet also mentioned that the VACs will not allow walk-in clients and only permit appointments that have been booked in advance. No one except the one who has scheduled an appointment would be allowed to visit a VAC.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) may also send a unique Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) to your registered email ID along with instructions to schedule a biometric appointment.

The government further added that more appointments would be gradually made available in the coming weeks.

In 2019, India sent over 85,000 international students, making it the leading source of students from outside Canada.

Biometrics are required for nationals of foreign countries when they wish to obtain a student permit, visitor visa, permanent residence, work permit, or an extension of their work or study permit.
