The Ontario province inCanada is offering free and voluntary COVID-19 testing at the Toronto Pearson International Airport for incoming international travellers. The scheme has been launched as the COVID-19 Screening Pilot Project and has been introduced by the Government of Ontario. The COVID-19 Screening Pilot Project is an addition to the rules, which came into effect from January 7 according to which the Negative COVID-19 Test is Mandatory for International Students Travelling to Canada.
The Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford made the official announcement at the Pearson Airport, the leading airport of Canada. The testing started from January 6 and the aim is to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Ontario.
Pearson International Airport, Toronto is one of the busiest airports of Canada as more than 60,000 international passengers including international students arrive at the airport each week.

How to Take the COVID-19 Free Testing at the Toronto International Airport?
Travellers who meet the eligibility requirements can pre-register for the test when arriving at thePearson airport. The borders of Canada are closed to most foreign travellers until at least January 21, 2021 with few exceptions. Those who will successfully register under the pilot scheme will get the free self-collected PCR test. The person will then be monitored by the health care provider when they self-administer the test.
Controlled self-administered COVID- 19 test will be conducted in a convenient and dedicated area within the Toronto airport. The test results will be provided within 48 hours on the Ontario Laboratory Information System. In case the results are positive, the public health units will take the follow-ups.
However, the COVID 19 test does not exempt travellers from mandatory 14 days quarantine after arriving in Ontario even if the COVID 19 test results are negative.
