UCAS International MD, Des Cutchey, commented that the record number of Indian student applications this year to UK universities is a good indicator of how countries are viewing the UK as a higher education destination.

Moreover, even if UK universities were to set up campuses in India and Indian universities set up universities in the UK, he stated that the forecast should remain the same. While highlighting similar situations with other countries and no impact on student applications in the UK from those countries, he stated that there is still a strong appeal of having an experience in a country outside of their own.

According to predictions made by UCAS, the UK will see a record number of international students studying at UK universities later this year. This will lead to an increase of 14% in undergraduate university applications from students worldwide.

One of the reasons that led to this increase could be the UKs new Graduate Route, applications for which began from July 1, 2021. For the 2020-21 cohort, the UK extended the deadline for students to be in the country until September 27, 2021.

For students starting their studies in the UK later this year or early next year, the deadline will be April 6, 2022.
