TheUniversity of East Anglia (UEA),UK recently announced a fully sponsored postgraduate scholarship programme for eligible youngwriters from India and the Indian subcontinent. TheSonny Mehta India scholarship is worthGBP 28,500 and writers can apply for the scholarship untilJune 3, 2022.
Gita Mehta founded the programme in 2021 in honour of her late husband, Sonny Mehta who was the Editor-in-Chief of Alfred A Knopf, a US publishing houseand Chairman of Knopf Doubleday Group.
The scholarship has been specially designed for aspiring writers whodemonstrate outstanding creative writing potentialto study MA Creative Writing: Prose, Poetry or Scriptwriting at the university. The expenses covered by the programme include tuition fees, living costs and relocation and maintenance costs.
To apply for the scholarships,students should be self-funded and be able to demonstrate genuine financial need. Those applying should notbe in receipt of any other awards or scholarships.
Apart from the scholarship announced, UEA also has a provision for a special scholarship programme for Indian students, the India Award Scholarship. Under the programme, GBP 5,000 isawarded to students who have either scored 60% above in LL.B. and wish to pursue a postgraduate course at UEA. For those whosuccessfully comply with UEAs eligibility/entry criteria,GBP 4,000 is awarded to Indian students under this UK scholarship program. All Indian students applying to the university will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
