Oxford University has handed over the onus of conducting the admission tests for its various courses to Tata Consultancy Services. The company will start conducting the tests in 2023.

In an announcement, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said that Oxford University selected the company to deliver several of its admission tests from 2023 onwards. This move will replace the Cambridge Admissions Assessment Testing (CAAT), which will continue delivering TSA and BMAT exams for relevant courses for another year.

The admission tests of the University of Oxford include HAT (History Admissions Test), CAT (Classics Admissions Test)), ELAT (English Literature Admissions Test), MLAT(Modern Languages Admissions Test), PAT (Physics Admissions Test), MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test), AMELAT (Asian and Middle Eastern Languages Admissions Test, formerly known as the OLAT)  and the Philosophy test for philosophy and theology. A new Geography Admissions Test (GAT) is said to be introduced later this year. 

It has also been announced that GAT, MAT, AMELAT and CAT will be held on October 19 and PAT, MLAT, HAT and Philosophy tests will be held on October 20.

 The registration process for all the exams will start on September 1 and continue till September 29 and the official website will keep updating students regarding the same. 

Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach, at Oxford University, Dr Samina Khan, said that the new agreement between TCS and Oxford University offers opportunities that are exciting for the future of admission testing at the university. It will usher in the possibility of fully digital delivery of the exam and its marking will also be done digitally. 

She is confident that this new examination arrangement with TCS will help down the line to modernise the delivery of the tests and over the following months, they will be consulting with various stakeholders that include students, schools and colleges, to ensure that their views are taken into consideration throughout the development phase of this testing system. They are excited to take forward this new project with all their partners.

Venguswamy Ramaswamy, TCS iON’s Global Head, said that TCS finds this project interesting as it will develop and deliver digital assessment within the setting of school. This new project can transform the paper-based testing environment that one can still find in education.
