As countries abroad recognise the benefits of having Indians working in their respective businesses and organisations, a number of Job Seeker visas have been introduced or revived. Here is a list of countries that offer Job Seeker visas for skilled Indian professionals across a range of disciplines.

Across the world, organisations are experiencing a shortage of skilled workers and professionals, especially specialists, as per reports. This dearth of skilled and qualified personnel has led many countries to introduce Job Seeking visas for Indians and other foreign nationals.

Countries like Austria, Germany, the UAE, Sweden and Portugal are working towards attracting Indian professionals to meet their labour demands. Therefore, these countries have worked towards creating different Job Seeker visas that prospective foreign nationals can use to work in the respective countries. 

Job Seeker visas are often classed as visas permitting foreign nationals like Indians, to enter a specific country and search for appropriate jobs. The visas also allow foreign nationals to attend interviews and other employment application activities. However, upon being selected by a company, those on job seeker visas will need to apply for the work permit visas of the respective countries. Country-wise Eligibility Criteria for Job Seeker Visas

Briefly detailed here are the eligibility criteria for Job seeker visas in different countries, including Austria, Germany, UAE, Sweden and Portugal.

Austria

  • Valid for 6 months.

  • Austria offers visas based on points, therefore, the minimum points that candidates should earn to receive a Job Seeker visa in Austria are 70.

  • According to regulations, a 4-year degree results in 20 points, while a PhD degree results in 40 points.

Germany

  • Valid for 6 months

  • Candidates need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree earned from a recognised German university or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.

  • They should also possess 5 years of professional experience.

  • Candidates must have provided proof of meeting the minimum financial requirement to survive in Germany for the duration of the visa.

  • They should also have bought travel or medical insurance that covers their medical expenses for the duration of their stay in Germany or till the time they receive their work permit.

Sweden

  • Offers a Job seeker visa which remains valid for 3 months but can be extended to 6 months.

  • Candidates must have earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or another advanced degree from a recognised university.

  • They must be able to support themselves during their stay and provide proof of sufficient funds. 

  • Sweden offers its Job Seeker visas to those willing to look for jobs or start their own business.

  • They must buy health insurance for the minimum duration of their stay in the country.

  • They should also possess a valid passport to enter the country.

  • Only applicants living outside of Sweden can apply for the Job Seeker visa.

UAE

  • The UAE offers three job seeker visas that remain valid for different numbers of days

    • The shortest duration for a job seeker visa in UAE is 60 days, while the longest duration is 120 days. There is another option with a 90-day validity period as well.

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree and must have graduated from one of the top 500 universities in the world.

  • They should provide proof of having sufficient funds to stay in the country.

  • Candidates should be classified under the first, second or third skill level as the Ministry of Human Resource and Emiratisation.

  • They should hold a valid passport at the time of application.

Portugal

  • Remaining valid for 120 days, the job seeker visa in Portugal can also be renewed for an additional 60 days as well.

  • Interested candidates should hold valid passports.

  • They should also have health insurance.

  • They should also provide proof of departure and return tickets to their home country, in case they are unable to secure a job within the given time period.

  • Candidates should also provide proof of sufficient funds.

  • They should also provide proof of acceptable educational qualifications as well.

It should be noted that the guidelines mentioned above are subject to change at the discretion of the country. Moreover, there will be additional requirements outlined by each country’s federal government as well.
