Humboldt University of Berlin was established in 1810. It started off as the University of Berlin making it the oldest universities among the 4 universities in Berlin. In 1945, it was renamed as Friedrich Wilhelm University. The current name of the university is in honour of Wilhelm von Humboldt. HU Berlin is accredited by Senate Chancellery for Science and Research, Berlin. According to QS World Ranking, HU Berlin is ranked 120th overall in the world. It has been positioned at top 20 for its subject studies in Arts and Humanities and Philosophy. THE Ranking 2019 has ranked HU Berlin as the 67th best in the world and 4th in Germany.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
FU Berlin has 3 main campuses in Germany, namely, Campus Adlershof, Campus Mitte and Campus Nord. The main campus of HU Berlin is Campus Adlershof. The campus has various buildings including the department of natural sciences. The location has become Europe’s one of the hotspots for science and technology. The campus has a library with 6.5 million volumes and is one of the largest university libraries in Germany. HU Berlin has 9 different faculties and offers as many as 189 disciplines at the undergraduate level. The medical school of HU Berlin is shared with Free University of Berlin. It was highly regarded for its studies in Natural Sciences. Some of the most popular courses at HU Berlin are Agriculture, Biology, Business, Chemistry and Computer Science.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The KOSMOS Programme is a key element in the internationalisation of research and teaching at Humboldt-Universitat, as part of its strategy “Bildung durch Wissenschaft. Educating Enquiring Minds: Individuality - Openess - Guidance”. The programme attracts the tradition of Alexander von Humboldt’s “Lectures on Physical Geography” - known as the KOSMOS Lectures. The programme was promoted as a tool for building and strengthening international partnerships. A KOSMOS Workshop allows members of Humboldt-Universitat to exchange ideas with international partners, to address current research topics, and to determine new prospects and approaches for future collaborations. HU Berlin has some of the very successful and famous alumni networks. HU Berlin has produced more than 29 Nobel prize winners. The alumni list includes names like Karl Max (Philosopher), Fritz Haber (German Chemist), Angela Davis (American Activist), Gabor Bochkor (TV presenter), Daniel Funke (Journalist) and many more.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
As of 2019, it holds an enrolment of 35,475 students out of which 5,610 are international students in bachelor studies postgraduate studies. HU Berlin enjoys a great network of employers and has a great reputation among the students for its placements. Top hirers include EY, European Commission, Zalando SE, Amazon, SAP, and Google.
