Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin or Berlin Institute of Technology) is a research university based in the capital city, Berlin. It was officially the first university that adopted the name ‘TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY’. It was established in 1770 as the most distinguished university in Europe. It is also a member of TU9 group of institutions in Germany. TU Berlin is accredited Senate Chancellery for Science and Research, Berlin. It holds recognition from the Conference of European School for Advanced Engineering Education and Research. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has recognized TU Berlin as the Entrepreneurial University. TU Berlin is a prestigious university in Germany and in the world too. It has always been ranked as the most reputed university. According to THE Rankings, the global rank of TU Berlin is positioned at 82. It is ranked 7th in Germany. TU Berlin is ranked 40th in the world for studies in Engineering and Technology while the country ranking is positioned at no. 3. According to QS World Ranking, it holds a rank of 164 and 35 in the field of Engineering and Technology.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
TU Berlin has 4 campuses in Germany, namely, Campus Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Campus Wedding, TU Campus EUREF, and campus Dahlem. The main campus is located in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. It holds the main building, Mathematics, Chemistry, Architecture, and the office of the board. The seven faculties offering various programs at TU Berlin are located on the main campus. It is spread over an area of 600,000 m2.among the various locations in Berlin. Engineering is the most popular field to pursue from TU Berlin. It has 7 faculties offering more than 100 programs. The 7 faculties are Human Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Process Sciences and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Science, Mechanical and Transport Systems, Architecture and Economics and Management. It offers 40 bachelor programs and 60 master’s programs.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Technische Universität Berlin’s present and indeed the largest project is the introduction of a campus management project that started in late 2015. It is now running in two key areas, Student Life Cycle Management (SLM) and Enterprise Resource Management (ERM). TU Berlin enjoys a vast spread network of alumni from over 138 countries across the world. The alumni community at TU Berlin has 34,000 members. Some of the well-known alumni are Dilek Kolat (Member of Bundesrat of Germany), Anupama Kundoo (Indian Architect), Abdul Qadeer Khan (Pakistani physicist), Klaus Stuttmann (Cartoonist) and many more.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
As of 2019, it holds an enrollment of 33,720 students out of which 8,700 were international students. It holds the highest percentage (26%) of international students enrolling at TU Berlin. The classes hold only 30 students per faculty i.e. 30:1. The size of the classes is generally small as compared to any other institute in Germany. No doubt that TU Berlin enjoys a great network of employers and has a great reputation among the students for its placements. It has an employment rate of 99% and with superb salaries. The list of recruiters includes some of the well-reputed firms like SoundCloud, ResearchGate, N26, Volkswagen, Daimler, Siemens, Bosch Group and many more.
