With the world returning to some sort of normalcy, the number of Indian students planning and applying to study abroad is slowly starting to gain traction. As more and more universities abroad along with their respective governments start to support and attract more students, studying abroad is slowly becoming a more attainable option for Indian students.

Number of Indian Students Applying to Study Abroad Growing

As the world heads into its third year of dealing with the pandemic, encouraging results can be seen in the number of Indian students still applying to study abroad. While between 2020 and 2021, the number of Indian students travelling abroad for higher studies dropped rapidly, as per data collected by official government sources, since 2021 and continuing on to 2022, the number of Indian students applying to study abroad is slowly beginning to climb up.

With the quick and effective development of vaccines and strict adherence to travel and public interaction restrictions, the world over has been significantly successful in fighting against the virus. In the case of India, the reason for the boost in Indian students applying to universities abroad can be attributed to the recognition of Covishield and Covaxin. Nonetheless, several reports have revealed that there are other reasons for the increase as well.

Across India, especially from the southern states like Tamil Nadu, students aspiring to study abroad have not only chosen the traditional options like the US, the UK and Canada but other destinations, especially in the EU, such as Germany, France, Ireland and even to the east, with many still opting to pursue higher education in countries like Singapore.

However, seeing several countries still hesitant in reopening their borders completely like Australia and New Zealand, reports have suggested that parents are also hesitant in sending their children to faraway countries.

Countries like the UK and Canada have been working round the clock to come up with new and improved policies that attract even more international students, especially from India. In fact, a recent report revealed that the UK reached its 600,000 international student goal in the country, 10 years before the deadline.

Another survey also revealed Canada to keep its spot as one of the top choices as a destination for prospective immigrants during the pandemic. This can be owed to the countrys continuous effort in renewing and improving its immigration processes and job opportunities, offering priority to immigrants.

Recently, during Budget 2022-23, even the Indian government announced e-passports that can help ease the immigration processes for prospective international students. With countries across the globe understanding the importance of international students and making strides in improving immigration processes as well as job opportunities, India is bound to see a significant increase in Indian students travelling abroad to pursue higher studies.
