During a panel discussion at the Acumen Global Gateway Summit on April 20, 2023, Ambassador Philipp Ackerman stated that the number of Indian students studying in Germany has "exploded" in recent years.
According to figures provided by the nation's ambassador to India, the German embassy in India has received approximately 25,000 applications for German student visas for the upcoming two-semester intakes.
According to him, Germany is the most recent addition to the study abroad spectrum since the number of Indian students studying in Germany has increased profoundly over the past few years, to the tune of 35,000 currently enrolled at its universities.

Indian students can almost study in Germany for free and attend English-medium programmes, which provide both academic and practical alternatives, which are two factors that contribute to the Indian youth's keen curiosity in heading to Germany, he stated.
German universities do not engage in any public relations activities, mostly because they are state-owned and administered accordingly by the federal government. There are no money-making goals or commercial agendas secretly followed by universities in Germany. However, as he pointed out, the embassy has become overcrowded with applications, and fraud is dragging down the German visa processing time for Indian students.
The sheer volume of German student visa applications submitted by Indian students has made the German authorities staggered. Therefore, it is challenging for the embassy to process 25,000 student visa applications in a single year.

As a result, the embassy is also experiencing some annoyance with the way things are going because the authorities need to move on to the academic assessment and remove the 5% to 10% of fake submissions from the pool. Even though there is not very much, the embassy still needs to do it, thus the procedures are taking longer than expected, as noted by Ackerman.
Whether the staggering amount of Indian applications will cause problems this year is unclear. In addition, Ackerman mentioned how hosting Indian students was a "win-win situation" for both the Indian students and German culture all around.
By the 2023 Wissenschaft weltoffen, which was published in March of the same year, 33,753 Indian students were studying in the European nation, accounting for 9.7% of the overall 349,438 international student population in the academic year 2021/22.

Universities in Germany are delighted to have Indian students. They have had nothing but excellent experiences with Indian students. Indian applications are therefore seen as being very desirable and being accepted effortlessly. International students have twelve months to find employment after graduating. As per Ackerman, every Indian student finds employment in Germany within the next six weeks after completing their studies.
In essence, the two sides benefit from this duplet because Germany is in need of a dedicated workforce and having several Indian students obtaining employment in the country is a huge comfort for everyone, says Ackerman.
Currently, a total of 40,055 students from China are enrolled in Germany's higher education system, making it the leading source nation for international students studying in the country.
