Established in 1972, George Mason University is known as Virginias largest public research university. The university was founded with 17 students but today around 10,000 students from different part of the world are pursuing their education at the university. The university was ranked 57th among top 100 world universities under 50 years old by the Times Higher Education in 2014. It was rated among the top 40 most diverse public universities in the world by the U.S News and World Report in 2013.

Courses at George Mason University include around 75+ Bachelor programs and 120+ Master programs available in the 10 colleges/ schools of the university. Mason's 10 colleges and schools span a variety of academic disciplines. Apart from the existing programs, the university also provides an opportunity for integrative studies to the students. They are further allowed to develop their own degree programs. Programs from all the major sectors are available at the campus of George Mason University. The campus of George Mason University is spread over 817 acres of land. Many facilities are available at the campus such as Aquatic and Fitness Center, Center for the Arts and EagleBank Arena.

The headline of the show The World Right Now with Hala Gorani, Hala Gorani, General manager of the resurgent Kansas City Royals, Dayton Moore, Zainab Salbi and the first Muslim woman in space, Anousheh Ansari are among the notable alumni of the University.

George Mason University, Fairfax, USA Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarship

Merit- Based Scholarships are offered to a limited number of international students at George Mason University. International applicants who are highly qualified are offered the scholarship. Candidates who apply as freshmen are considered for the scholarship. There is no need to fill  separate applications for scholarships.

Candidates who submit the online application form by April 1st  for Fall Term are considered for scholarship. 

Following are the eligibility criteria to be considered for Merit- Based Scholarship:

  • The candidate must apply as a freshman in the first year of studies.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in full-time studies in the Fall semester. 
  • GPA and test score are considered for the scholarship. However, it is not the only factor and the overall performance of the student is evaluated to offer the scholarship.
  • The applicant must have an F1 Visa.

Value of the scholarship ranges between $2,000 and $10,000 per academic year. The scholarship is renewable for four years provided the student maintains academic performance.
 

You are Welcome Here Scholarship

The scholarship was introduced to recognise international students with a remarkable intercultural understanding. GMU offers two of these scholarships every Fall. 

It shall be open to the candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • A first-year international student enrolled in undergraduate programmes in any field of study. 
  • An applicant with an F1 Visa and citizenship outside the US.
  • A candidate with interest in leadership and intercultural learning.
  • One who has met all the requirements for admission to Mason.
  • The candidate must have completed the application process for the scholarship and submitted a 500-1,000 word essay or a two-five minute video on his/her leadership skills in their previous school or community.

A #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship will cover at least 50% tuition fee for the first year. It can be combined with other available merit scholarships and renewed for the second year only if the student maintains a good academic record.

External Scholarships

International students may aslo apply for external or outside scholarships available at George Mason University, which are offered through private agencies such as scholarship foundations, government agencies, community organisations, employers and more.

Criteria for these scholarships will include financial need, academic background, volunteerism, community affiliations, heritage, underrepresented group or other unique factors.
