A public research university, with its main campus located in the city of Lawrence, the University of Kansas was established in 1866. The university has consistently earned high rankings for academics and has also received significant recognition as a premier research university. It has been ranked 130th in the list of best national universities in the USA by US News & World Report and is one of the top 500 universities in the world.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Starting with the campus in Lawrence, the university has established four additional campuses — the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, and medical schools in Kansas City, Wichita, and Salina. The total campus area is over 1,000. The University of Kansas is a reputed higher educational institution offering over 140 Bachelor’s and over 230 Master’s degree programmes, in addition to doctorate and professional degree programmes. More than 28,000 students are currently enrolled at the university, around 9% of which are international students coming from 110 countries.

There are a number of scholarships available for international applicants to the university’s undergraduate programmes.
Candidates must note that the deadline for submission of the completed application to be considered for International Admissions scholarships for fall admission is February 1 and for spring admission is November 1.
All or some of the following documents must be submitted to receive merit-based scholarships for international students at the University of Kansas.
Official transcripts from each school
Proof of English proficiency
Resume (along with an explanation of how any three of the hobbies/activities mentioned in your resume have helped you develop leadership skills)
A 500-work essay on any topic of your choice. Candidates may also consult the list of suggested topics available on the university website.
Three Letters of Recommendation
KU International Excellence Award: A scholarship available to the international freshmen as well as transfer applicants to the University of Kansas.
Value: $100,000+ ($25,000+/year)
Eligibility: To be eligible for the KU International Excellence Award, a candidate must fulfil the following criteria.
KU International Merit Award
Value: $36,000 ($9,000/year)*
Eligibility: KU International Merit Award is only available to first-year applicants. Candidates must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship.
Have a minimum GPA of 3.75-4.00
Preferably submit their official SAT or ACT scores.
KU International Distinction Award
Value: $24,000 ($6,000/year)*
Eligibility: Candidates must satisfy the criteria given below to be eligible for the KU International Distinction Award.
Have a minimum GPA of 3.5-3.74
Preferably submit official scores of SAT or ACT.
KU International Achievement Award
Value: $12,000 ($3,000/year)*
Eligibility: Candidates must satisfy the criteria given below to be eligible for the KU International Achievement Award:
Have a minimum GPA of 3.25-3.49
Preferably submit official scores of SAT or ACT.
It is noteworthy that scholarships have limited availability and satisfying the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that a candidate will receive any of the available scholarships. The overall profile of a candidate is evaluated before a decision is made on the dissemination of these awards.
Scholarships available for postgraduate applicants are mostly programme-specific and the candidates must contact their concerned departments and/or consult the programme website to find details about the scholarships and financial aid that they are eligible to apply for.
