A public university that traces its roots back to 1858, Iowa State University (ISU) was set up by the State of Iowa as part of the state’s initiative to democratise access to higher education. In addition to being its oldest university, it is also the top higher educational university in the state of Iowa. Ranked among the top 150 universities in the USA and the top 500 universities in the world, ISU is highly acclaimed not only in its home country but also all around the globe.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

ISU’s massive 1900-acre campus is not only one of the largest but also one of the most beautiful campuses in the USA and an integral part of the city of Ames. It houses ISU’s 8 colleges — College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Design, Ivy College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Human Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Graduate College. More than 100 undergraduate, 117 postgraduate and a wide range of doctoral programmes are offered in these colleges and the current number of total enrolments is over 35,000. The University campus also offers scenic getaways to students and is as much a place for study as it is for fun, relaxation, exploring, skill development and personality development.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Being a pioneer of research in the state, ISU is a place of many bests and firsts — from being the place where the world’s first digital electronic computer was created in 1942 to being the place having the best high-resolution virtual reality lab in the world. The university is also widely recognised for its student-oriented approach towards education and its efforts towards ensuring that its graduates find success in their lives and while also building the capability of applying their knowledge in solving practical problems that affect people all around the world.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

A number of programmes have been set up by the University with the intent of promoting health and fitness, and ISU’s vibrant and active student body takes full advantage of the university’s recreational facilities, which include fitness centres, sports clubs, outdoor trips and workshops etc. Plus, there are over 900 student organisations active in ISU, which help keep the student body active and engaged.
