The University of California was established in 1868 with the mission to contribute more to the happiness and success of California's residents. The University of California, Berkeley is the flagship institution of the California system of universities. Located in Berkeley, UC is known for its numerous research centres, such as the Space Sciences Laboratory. Aside from these facilities, Berkeley also houses some of the most notable research centres in the country. Among its faculty members are Nobel Prize-winning scientists and engineers. Ernest Lawrence and J.R. Oppenheimer, who led the Manhattan Project, is also among the university's alumni. When it started out, it had just 40 students. By the 1940s, it had grown significantly and became the second-best university in the country. During the 1960s, the university gained worldwide recognition due to its student activism, which included the Free Speech Movement and the protests against the Vietnam War. With numerous research centres, Berkeley is known for its achievements in various fields of study. It has also played a prominent role in the discovery of various chemical elements.

Infrastructure, Campus, and Courses

With over 35,000 students, Berkeley's campus life is constantly changing. In addition, its urban setting and diverse culture make it a unique place to live. Since its founding in 1970, UC Berkeley has grown to become one of the largest universities in the world with over 1,600 faculty members and over 350 degree programs. Students don't have to travel far to see stunning examples of landscape and architecture. The campus is filled with natural beauty, such as the trees near the Sather Tower and the Doe Library. During a field trip, students were able to tour some of the most notable architectural sites on the campus, such as the Hearst Mining Building and the Northgate Hall. Most of UC Berkeley's incoming students live on-site. There are more than a thousand student groups and organizations. There are also plenty of Greek life groups and chapters on the campus. The athletic teams compete against each other in the Pacific-12 Conference.

Scholarships at UC Berkeley for International Students

While UC Berkeley claims that it may be difficult to offers scholarships to international students, it does provide a few suggestions to students looking for financial aid for higher studies at the university:

  • Some departments at the university may offer scholarships to incoming international students. Hence, students are advised to work with the respective departments. 

  • Students can opt for research scholarships offered by private organisations in the US and in India. These organisations may offer scholarships based on the candidate's background, current or future field of study and possible career options.
