Teaching Assistantships

Eligibility: The eligibility criteria for international students for teaching assistantships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is as follows:

• The student must be enrolled in a degree-granting postgraduate course at the university

• The student must hold the assistantship for at least 4 continuous months in a semester. Failure to do so will result in the loss of benefits and the student may be asked to remit any incurred tuition costs or insurance premiums.

• The combined duration of all assistantships must not be below 13.33 or above 20 hours per week.

However, before a student can take up an assistantship at the university, he/she must be recommended to attend the International Teaching Assistant Institute (ITAI) by their department head, course head or TA supervisor. Enrollment also depends on a student’s performance in the speaking section of TOEFL or IELTS, as given below.
 

Fellowships

Much more limited in quantity than assistantships, fellowships are highly-contested-for financial aid awards offered to students demonstrating excellent academic qualities, creative potential and/or financial need.
