Syracuse University (SU), founded in 1870, is a private research institution situated in Central New York. SU and its history are well associated with the colour ‘Orange’ and we can see that for ourselves as it is tied into campus life and various student-run organisations such as the student-run newspaper, Citrus TV, etc. The university is affiliated by National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, International Association of Methodist-related Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU), Universities Research Association (URA), Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), University and College Accountability Network (U-CAN). The institution is ranked 54th amongst National Universities and 27th in Best Colleges for Veterans by U.S. News 2020 Edition.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Syracuse University’s campus setting is urban, sits on University Hill, above the sprawling city of Syracuse. The 721 acres campus comprises an eclectic mix of buildings, ranging from nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival structures to contemporary buildings. The Main Campus is known as the “North Campus” and also houses a centerpiece - The Kenneth A. Shaw Quadrangle, commonly known as the “The Quad” which is surrounded by academic and administrative buildings and offers the students the amenities of a traditional college experience. The university has eight international centers, known as SU Abroad centers and offers students with structured programmes in a variety of academic disciplines. These centers are situated in Beijing, Istanbul, Florence, Hong Kong, London, Madrid, Strasbourg, and Santiago. The University offers 200 majors, 100 minors, and 200 advanced degree programmes across Syracuse’s 13 schools and colleges. Some of the highly popular programmes at the university include Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs; Social Sciences; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Visual and Performing Arts; and Engineering.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The University’s achievements in various fields are a testament to their quality. There are 30 research centers across various disciplines including the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute, Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, the Tully Center for Free Speech, and George E. Bennett Center for Accounting and Tax Research. The university became the first institution in the nation to offer a bachelor of fine arts degree and along with that, founded the nation’s first school. Along with the research work and the historic art, Syracuse University has athletic teams as well, known as the Orange and they participate in 20 intercollegiate sports and is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC for all NCAA Division I athletics. The university also focuses on the nation's military veterans and their families. Notable alumni include Thom Filicia- Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Bruce Fowle- Fox & Fowle Architects, Ross Love- CEO, Blue Chip Enterprises and so on.

SU has a proud tradition of providing an environment in which students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, create and grow, which is determined by the fact that SU has a diverse student population, representing all 50 US states and over 115 countries and the 10% of the international student population is supported by an international services department within the university's Division of Student Affairs.
