Charles Benedict Calvert founded this public research university in the year 1856 which was earlier known as Maryland Agriculture College and Maryland State College. The university is affiliated with Association of American Universities, American Council of Education, APLU, BTAA, CUWMA, ORAU, SURA, U21, and URA. University of Maryland-College Park has attained 64th position among National Universities, 37th among Best Colleges for Veterans, and 144th among Best Value Schools according to the US News 2020 Edition. The University is ranked at 136th position by QS Global World Ranking 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
With a campus size of 1,335 acres, the university offers more than 200 bachelor’s courses, 107 master’s courses, and around 90 doctoral degree programmes. The university offers a Book Center, Career Center, counselling centre, Dining Services, Health Center, Memorial Chapel, Off Campus Housing, Clubs, Transportation services, Golf course, and many more. The university is known internationally for courses in Linguistics, Physics and Astronomy, Natural sciences and computer sciences and information systems.
Accomplishments & Alumni
It has enrolled more than 40,000 students and is recognised globally. The university has a good reputation with its alumni. There are a number of awards distributed among the students, faculty, and alumni. The notable awards include president’s award, outstanding young alumnus award, spirit of Maryland award, Tyser Gottwals Award, Elaine Johnson Coates Award, Do Good Award, The Alumni Excellence Awards.

The diversity is much higher than the other universities in the nation. College Park is at 287 as far as diversity is concerned. There is an equal mix of males and females. Students come from various geographical locations and now there are close to 5,000 international students studying at the university. The university conducts career fairs and events for students, employers have a special recruiting calendar with important dates and links with on-campus interviews. Top employers hiring graduates are KPMG, Microsoft, Boeing, Google, Wells Fargo and so on.
