The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the initial registration dates for the 2024 H-1B cap. According to the press release, prospective petitioners and representatives can complete and submit their registration via the online H-1B registration system starting 1st to 17th March 2023.
In the press release published by USCIS, it was revealed that the number of registrations will determine who receives the selection notifications. It stated that if the number of registrations exceeds the limit, the USCIS will randomly select registrations who will receive the selection notification on the users’ myUSCIS online accounts. Meanwhile, if the number of registrations is lower than the limit, all who have registered will receive the selection notifications.

The aforementioned selection notifications should be sent out by 31 March, the press release added. Reports further revealed that prospective petitioners will be able to create new accounts for the application on 21 February 2023.
As per trends, Indians were the biggest beneficiaries of the H-1B visa with them comprising 70% of the new visas granted every year. Additionally, both Indian and American technology organisations used the H-1B visas to meet the high-skilled tech talent demand in the USA. However, with the recent tech layoffs seen in the USA over the past few months, the demand for the new H-1B visas this year is yet to be seen since the US usually received over the 85,000 visas on offer.

Reports have revealed that an H-1B cap-subject petition may only be filed by a petitioner whose registration for the beneficiary named in the H-1B petition was selected in the H-1B registration process.
The press release also highlighted a temporary hike in the daily credit card transaction limit from USD 24,999.99 to USD 39,999.99 per day for the FY 2024 H-1B cap season. The interim credit card transaction increase has been provided as a response to the volume of H-1B registrations previously that had surpassed the daily credit card limit. The agency further announced that all further information will be published before the initial H-1B registration period commences.
