UP Girl Awarded 100% Scholarship to Study Bioengineering at Stanford University

A girl from a UP village has secured a 100% scholarship to study a Bioengineering major at Stanford University. She wants to be an entrepreneurial engineer and improve the health sector.

A class 12 girl from a small Uttar Pradesh village has secured a 100% scholarship to study at Stanford University. Dakshayani Pandey will start her major in Bioengineering and minor in Entrepreneurship in September 2023.

Pandey lives in a small village called Mau in UP. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. Her parents gave extreme importance to education and always motivated her to study. She is a bright student who always made it to the top ten of the class. She joined VidyaGyan school in class 10th where she received a quality education.

Her dream was to study at a university at Stanford and she worked towards her goal from class 9. She did not feel that the application process was hectic as the study pressure is not much until class 10. She advised that students should not focus on things to get into a particular university but should do what they really like to do. Giving her instance she said he liked designed thinking and enjoyed it.

Her admission to Stanford is conditional as she has yet to complete her board examination. She had written five essays of 150 words and three essays of 250 words. Also, there was a common app essay of 60 words. She was spared from the interview round.

Dakshayani took up the unique blend of courses from two streams to explore the process of creating things as well as creating a start-up. She wishes to be an entrepreneurial engineer where she wants to develop products and put them into the market.

She enjoys biology and bioengineering and wants to work in the healthcare sector. She wants to use frugal science to bring down the cost of equipment and make healthcare affordable and accessible to all.

She was also declared the winner of the India@75 National Youth Ideathon 2021. For the competition, she made an indigenously built low-version automotive prototype which can save numerous infant lives trapped inside a car by containing and balancing out the poisonous gases and lack of oxygen in a closed car which can lead to asphyxiation.

As she likes design thinking and innovation, she has also created a projector, VR headset, a mini version of a hydraulic bridge and a UV filter.

Dakshayani has also been active in volunteer work. She hopes to work in innovative entrepreneurship while at Stanford and create an entrepreneurial mindset in young Indian minds.

In the future, she hopes to also contribute towards child education in India to improve their lives.
