ETS Adds TOEFL iBT Home Edition to its Permanent Product Portfolio

With taking tests at home gaining popularity among candidates, ETS, the test provider for TOEFL iBT has announced that it will permanently be adding TOEFL iBT Home Edition as an option.

Launched earlier this year, ETS has announced that their TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition will be added as a permanent option. The Special Home Edition TOEFL iBT was released as a response to the global pandemic which restricted human contact.

The Test Provider stated that the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition will be renamed as TOEFL iBT Home Edition. They further announced that the Home Edition will be the answer to the needs of institutions and test-takers, across the world.

Srikant Gopal, the Executive Director of the TOEFL programme, stated that the TOEFL Special Home Edition was a temporary solution for students who had been impacted by the pandemic, till in-person testing recommenced.

However, after the programme had been launched, Gopal stated that the team at the test provider have learned and made continuous improvements to the product. Among the changes provided, the test can now be accessed on MAC computers, while previously, it was only available for PCs.

He further pointed out that the Home edition of the test offers the same experience, content, formate and scoring as that of tests conducted in test centres. The Online AI-supported proctors also allow for tests to be “administered securely and that the scores are reliable”, Gopal added. Further, with the test centres across the world reopening its doors, the test provided test takers with the option of partaking in the tests at home or test centres.

This year, since March, over 10,000 individuals from over 160 countries and territories have attempted the test successfully. Surveys from ETS also reveal that nearly 50% of the test-takers preferred the Home Edition.

ETS has also noted that applicants will presently be able to make appointments 24 hours in a day, four days a week till the end of January 2021. The option of making future appointments will be soon be made available, they added.
