The New Zealand government has approved the return of 1000 international students enrolled in bachelors or higher studies in the country. Earlier in December,New Zealand had opened borders for 250 international students enrolled in PhD programmes.
The decision taken by the Ministry reflects the commitment and concern of New Zealands Government towards international students. Not only this, but the decision is also useful for students affected by the pandemic.
Earlier in 2020, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, theNew Zealand Govt Allocated $51.6m to International Education Sector.
Grant McPherson, the Chief Executive of ENZ said that international students are an important asset for the country and the decision of return for selected international students is part of theRecovery Plan for International Education of New Zealand government.
New Zealand has decided to allow international students to return to the country in a phased manner to manage demand on MIQ facilities. Students enrolled in universities, polytechnics/ institutes of technology, private training or wananga will be considered eligible to enter the country provided they have a valid visa.
The Government is progressing towards the safe return of international students and anyone entering New Zealand will have to follow all COVID-19 health and safety requirements that include a 14-day stay in isolation and quarantine facilities.
