Canada Sees Significant Improvement in Immigration Backlog

Canada is making progress in its efforts to reduce its skilled work visa backlog, particularly among the Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). According to data released by the country's immigration agency IRCC, Canada has processed more FSWPvisas in the last two monthsthan it did in2021.

The number of skilled workervisas in Canada went down by more than 9,000 applicants between December 15, 2021, and February 28, 2022. In the second half of 2021, the IRCC processed around 600 applications a month. The number of people waiting for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) visa decreased by almost 12,000 during the period. The number of people waiting for the visa under the Express Entry pathway also decreased.

Additionally, the number of economic class applicants in the Canadian visa backlog is down by 24,400 since the end of October 2021.

The Canadian Experience Class is one of the three immigration programs that were handled through Express Entry. In 2021, Canada started focusing on attaining its goal of having 401,000 immigrants annually. The other two immigration programs that were handled through Express Entry are the Federal Skilled Work Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. The latter two are geared toward attracting skilled workers.

Before the pandemic, about half of the successful Canada Express Entry candidates were from the Federal Skilled Work Program.

Canada uses Express Entry to process its skilled work visa applications. The country's Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in February that he would improve the processing times for work permits. If you're not a skilled trades professional and have never been to Canada, the FSWP is the best option for you.

The minister said that the IRCC would use its budget to reduce the processing times, which were made worse by the pandemic. A study revealed that the number of Indians residing in Canada has increased significantly since 2016. Canada's immigration backlog reached 1.8 million last month. It included applications from various categories such as permanent residents and international students.

If your application has been pending for a long time, then its time to re-evaluate your options. First, contact the IRCC and ask for details of the processing process. According to Saini, if the IRCC doesnt respond within the stipulated time, then its time to ask for the officers processing notes. For instance, if you have a relative in Canada, you can contact the Member of Parliament for that country to get updates regarding the status of your application.
