University of Waikato was established after eight years of struggle by a handful of Hamiltonian locals to set up an independent university at Waikato, New Zealand. The University of Waikato was founded in 1964 by the then Governor-Generalof the country, Sir Bernard Fergusson.
The university campus expands across an area of 65 hectares. The campus is situated in Hamilton city of Waikato in New Zealand. University of Waikato is among the leading universities of the world and holds QS Global World University Ranking of 266.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
In 1989, University of Waikato became the first university in New Zealand to offer online degree programmes and had the first cyber-graduates in the country. Today, the University of Waikato holds a total strength of more than 12,000 students and continues to offer progressive and innovative learning experiences to its students. The Seven Faculties and Schools of study at the University of Waikato offers various teaching and research programmes that are internationally recognised.

According to 2018 reports, the university had 1791 international students who were enrolled in different full-time studies offered at the university. Students from abroad cover approximately 12% of the total students in the university, which is the reason for its diverse student population. The university also has 155 international partners across 33 regions to offer training and placement programmes to the students.
