History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Canterbury was established in 1873 in the centre of Christchurch (now the Arts Centre). It is the second university in the country of New Zealand which is a non-profit higher education institution. The university has been officially accredited by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand. It is a world recognised university which is ranked in the world’s top 250 universities. The Times Higher Education (THE) ranked the university in the top 301-350 universities in the world. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Canterbury campus is situated in 76 hectares of historical landscape and the Christchurch suburb of Ilam. The campus offers remarkable modern learning and teaching opportunities, hostel facility, four libraries, 24-hour computer suites, laboratories, studios, boxing training area, sports courts, cafes, bars, religious facilities and so on. It also supports research and teaching sessions in fieldwork at Harihari, Kaikoura, Westport and Cass. The university offers more than 120 qualifications in over 150 different fields of study. 

Accomplishments & Alumni 

The University of Canterbury prides itself on its achievements and alumni. It believes in building an extensive and active network of notable alumni who have excelled in myriad areas. UC alumni have made great differences not only at the national level but also at the international level. From an Indigenous Rights activist to the first New Zealand born judge to be a part of the Privy Council, the graduates of the university have succeeded in every field imaginable.

UC has a vibrant and diverse student community with more than 100 different nationalities. It offers exchanges with 60 different partners from across the world. Employers engage with the students of the university through work-integrated learning, internships, summer/winter work placements, etc. Graduates are given the opportunity to participate in career fairs and events which help them network with the company representatives of some of the top companies.
