Established in 1883, the University of Texas at Austin is a public research university located in the capital city of Texas. It was opened with one building and today it comprises eighteen schools and colleges. The main campus of the university covers an area of 431 acres. The University of Texas at Austin is among the top universities of the world. The latest QS World University Ranking of the University of Texas (UT) is 65 and is also ranked 14th among the Top Public Schools, National Universities in the US News & World Report, 2020.

The University of Texas at Austin offers more than 150 undergraduate degree programmes. The graduate degree programmes offered at the university are over 130. The University of Texas has more than 50,000 students enrolled in various UG and PG courses offered at UT and the international students at UT covers more than 10% of the students at the university. Students at the University of Texas come from 125 countries. The university is spread over a total of 1,438 acres, comprising the Main Campus with 150 buildings and the J. J. Pickle Research Campus.

Scholarship for International Students at the University of Texas at Austin

International students are usually not eligible for university scholarships. However, certain departments award scholarships to international students based on their performance during their studies at the university.

Applicants must contact the department they are applying to confirm the availability and procedure for scholarships. 

Following are the list of financial aids offered to international students at the University of Texas at Austin:

The Gates Scholarship

This highly-selective scholarship is for excellent students who are from low-income families. Every year, the award is granted to 300 students in order to help them realise their potential to the maximum extent possible.

Value: 

Full cost of attendance including tuition fees, board, accommodation, transportation and personal expenses.’

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Must be selected by TGS operated by Hispanic Scholarship Fund

  • Must be a high school senior

  • Must be from at least one of the ethnicities- African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American

  • Must be a US citizen, permanent or national resident.

  • Must have a good academic record with at least a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Must enrol in a full-time four-year degree programme at a US accredited not-for-profit, public or private college or university.

Will Rogers Memorial Scholarship

Available for disabled or non-disabled students pursuing higher education to work with students who are disabled, Will Rogers Memorial Scholarship is offered to non-Texas residents.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be applied to through FAFSA

  • Can be a Texas or non-Texas resident

  • Must be a disabled or non-disabled student pursuing higher education to work with students who are disabled.

Value: 

$250-$1500

W.A. James Scholarship

It is offered to provide scholarship awards to students who deserve.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be applied to through FAFSA

  • Can be a Texas or non-Texas resident

Value: 

$500-$1500

UT Scouting Award Scholarship

It is offered to provide scholarship awards to students who deserve it.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be applied to through FAFSA

  • Can be a Texas or non-Texas resident

  • Must hold a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Award or Venturing Silver Award

Value: 

$500-$1500

Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship (UEPS)

The UEPS will be managed by the university’s Office of Financial Aid and only about 15% of all candidates are nominated. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be junior or senior

  • Can be a Texas or non-Texas resident

  • Must have scored 3.75 GPA to renew

Value: 

Minimum $2500

Sidney and Pearl Hotchkiss Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship is to assist undergraduate students whose parents are deceased.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an undergraduate student of any major

  • Can be a Texas or non-Texas resident

  • Should demonstrate financial need

Value: 

$500-$1500

Ronald M. and Marilou D. Brown Endowed Scholarship

Five to six one-year scholarships are awarded to eligible students who demonstrate their need for financial assistance. It should be applied through FAFSA.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Should be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate programme.

  • Should be children of current, deceased or retired faculty or staff members

  • Should have demonstrated academic success

  • Previous recipients may re-apply.

Value: 

$500-$2000 variable
