The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UMD) was founded in 1959, which became a public university with a gift of just over 200 acres from the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. It is one of the two regional campuses of the University of Michigan operating under the policies of the Board of Regents. Back in 1959, Junior, senior and first-year graduate students enrolled in only three degree programs: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Business Administration. UMD got the accreditation in 1990, of their Child Development Center by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, making it one of just 34 programs nationwide to hold such distinction. They made an academic breakthrough in 2013 when they announced the evolution of the School of Education into the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. Bloomberg Businessweek rated UMD’s undergraduate business program #30 among all public universities in 2016. They are also ranked #21 in Best Colleges for Veterans and #12 in Top Performers on Social Mobility as per the U.S. News & World Report 2020. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Michigan-Dearborn has a huge campus size of 202 acres. In addition, the University has over 70 acres (283,000 m²) of nature preserve and a bird observatory, the Rouge River Bird Observatory, All in all, a complete environment to experience learning and growth. UM-Dearborn offers 100+ academic majors and minors, 43 masters degree programs, and 6 doctoral degree/specialist programs. UMD is segregated in 4 major colleges, namely, the College of Arts, Sciences, & Letters (CASL), the College of Engineering & Computer Science (CECS), the College of Business (COB), and the College of Education, Health, & Human Services (CEHHS). The university was preferred by students for its engineering and management programs.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Over thousands of graduates are members of the largest alumni organisation of its kind in the world, the University of Michigan Alumni Association. They actively participate in diversified activities at the University. Some of the famous alumni members include Ismael Ahmed - Director of the Michigan Department of Human Services, Susy Avery - Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, George Darany - Former member of the Michigan House of Representatives and Mary Beth Kelly - Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

UMD is a multicultural community, to discover one’s own strengths and forge lifelong friendships. The university had an enrollment of nearly 9,500+ students in Fall 2018, out of which, 94% were Michigan residents representing 40 countries, 26% were minorities. 50% were first-generation college students. The university has a diverse student community, thus welcoming international students every year. And if it comes to professional exposure, more than 75% of UMD students have at least a part-time job or are involved with a Co-op or an Internship programme. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, etc hire graduates from the university.
