Illinois Institute of Technology is one of the reputed private research universities located in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1040, when the Armour Institute of Technology and Lewis Institute merged. It is a really good institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering. The university has a pretty high acceptance rate of 54% therefore most students can expect to make it to IIT-Chicago. It is ranked #641 according to U.S. News for 'Best Global Universities Ranking'. It is prominently an architecture school, which can also be seen in how the campus architecture has been done. The University is ranked at #=421 by QS World University Rankings 2020. It was also ranked the 72nd best graduate school for engineering in the U.S. News & World Report's "Best Graduate Schools 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
IIT has five campuses. The 120-acre IIT main campus is centred around approximately 4.8 km south of the Chicago Loop. The one thing that makes IIT so popular is its location. Chicago has been voted as one of the best cities in the world to live in, and it’s one of the major financial capitals as well. The main campus is located in Chicago's Bronzeville neighbourhood and houses all undergraduate programmes and graduate programmes in engineering, sciences, architecture, communications, and psychology.
All engineering programmes of the University are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. College of Architecture NAAB-accredited programmes including the B.Arch and M.Arch programmes. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BS-CS) program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. The School of Applied Technology's Bachelor of Information Technology and Management programme is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. Stuart School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The 2020 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings place Illinois Tech #117 among National Universities and #36 among Best Value Schools. The cell phone, magnetic recording, tall building architecture, and barcode technology are just some of the inventions made by Illinois Tech faculty and alumni. S. R. Crown Hall, Illinois Tech’s College of Architecture, is a National Historic Landmark considered by many to be one of the iconic buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The Master of Science in Finance Programme at Stuart School of Business is ranked at #5 in the nation and #42 in the world by the Financial Times. In 2019 Illinois Tech launched a B.S. in artificial intelligence degree which makes it the first of its kind in the Midwest. Prominent alumni include Martin Cooper - Inventor of the mobile phone, Sanjay Kirloskar - Chairman and MD at Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., and Rajeev Chandrasekhar - MP, Member of the team which designed the Pentium chip, Founder of BPL Mobile.

There is a very large community of 3,297 international students at IIT-Chicago coming from all over the world with 48 countries. The student to faculty ratio is 12:1. IIT, Chicago has a total of 50% international students on campus. Illinois Institute of Technology has a total of 3,297 international students on campus, 602 of whom are undergraduates.
